Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

Provides care to home health patients who require psychiatric nursing assessment and interventions. Plans and evaluates the clinical and behavioral health management of clients. Evaluates treatment plans, medications, and other necessary care. Provides recommendations to home care staff, physicians, and other providers to address the psychiatric needs of clients.

Education and Experience
Master's Degree (or equivalent in work experience) and 3-5 years experience
Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special Requirements
Licensed as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
Applies professional guidelines and practice standards to make varied decisions within a department. Uses sound judgment and experience to solve moderately complex problems based on precedent, example, reasonableness or a combination of these.
Works closely with agency interdisciplinary team, clinical, and quality leadership to provide the highest achievable outcome for the patient.
Knowledge and Skills
Possesses extensive knowledge of a distinct skill or function and a thorough understanding of the organization and work environment. Has a working knowledge of a functional discipline. Displays expertise in assessing and providing symptom management for behavioral health patients. Possesses excellent communication skills, and an understanding of working with patients with mental illness and their families. Demonstrates an ongoing commitment to enhancing their medical expertise in caring for mental health patients.
