Determines staffing needs; recruits, selects, hires, and orients nursing staff/direct care personnel. Assists the Human Resource Director and Health Care Administrator with recruitment and selection of Clinical Services Associates. Completes associate performance evaluations and disciplinary action as needed. Delegates’ authority to supervisory/lead staff. - Reviews complaints and grievances filed by personnel and/or residents. Reports and investigates all allegations of abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property. Reports suspected or known violations of disclosure of resident protected health information. - Coordinates ancillary services. - Oversees the coordination of MDS to ensure timeliness of submissions. - Maintains the policy and procedures that govern day-to-day functions in the Clinical Services Department. Develops, implements, and ensures nursing standards and department operation standards meet or exceed federal and state regulatory requirements. Manages the associates responsible for the general operating maintenance and repair of the buildings and grounds to maintain proper care of the assigned community(s) in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards/regulations and company policies.   - Supervises the community maintenance, housekeeping and laundry (if applicable) staff, to include hiring, training, evaluating performance, resolving disciplinary issues and firing. - Directs workers engaged in the maintenance and upkeep of the interior and exterior of the community. Inspects completed work for conformance to standards and policies. - Oversees scheduled maintenance on: H.V.A.C., elevator, fire and sprinkler equipment, generator, landscape, kitchen equipment, and emergency pull cord equipment. - Coordinates maintenance requests by residents for items needing repair in their rooms, including repairing plumbing, electrical, heating and replacing light bulbs. - Oversees repairs and maintenance of buildings including vacated rooms in a timely manner. This includes painting walls and cleaning carpets. - Ensures walls, floor coverings, doors, and woodwork in the common areas of the community are properly maintained. - Maintains positive communication with local fire Marshall, building inspector, state elevator inspector, and any other jurisdictions governing the community. - Assesses all plumbing and electrical problems within the community and determines the best course of action to correct the problem. - Provides direct supervision of care giving within the community. Ensures residents are treated with respect and dignity recognizing individual needs and encouraging independence. Fosters a homelike atmosphere throughout the community. - Provides direct supervision of resident care staff, which includes monitoring job performance, conducting associate performance evaluations, coaching and counseling associates and conducting and documenting corrective action as needed. Also manages associates schedules and coordinates the training and education of resident care staff on an ongoing basis. - Assists the Health and Wellness Director in medication management, including administration of medications to residents, ordering medication from pharmacy and maintaining records as dictated in Brookdale Senior Living policies and procedures manual. Assures that medications are properly stored, medication carts/cupboards are cleaned and medication room is organized according to standards. - Observes residents health status, takes actions to address concerns within scope of practice, and reports all significant changes, reactions to medications and treatment or significant incidences to Health and Wellness Director in a timely manner. Reviews capabilities of resident who self-administer medications on a regular basis (refer to state regulations regarding medication assistance and documentation). - Performs ongoing assessments of resident physical and psycho-social needs and coordinates with nurse to assure quality proactive care as allowed by state regulation and communicates to families regarding resident's personal needs and achievements. Reminds families of need for scheduled physician, dental, or eye appointments. - Shares on call duties as required. - Associates degree in health care related field and/or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Refer to state specific regulations for qualifications required to assist with medications. - In accordance with state law, may need to possess current state certification and follow regulations to maintain certification currency.
